HOW WE OPERATE

Operators first.

United Commerce Group was built from operating experience, not investment theory.

Founder Jason Guerrettaz spent years starting, acquiring, growing and selling businesses before UCG evolved into the diversified holding company it is today. That history continues to influence how we evaluate opportunities and how we work with the companies we own.

We don’t believe ownership alone creates value. Value comes from understanding a business, identifying what is holding it back and doing the work required to make it stronger.

Different businesses require different answers.

Our companies operate across very different markets. Some are technology businesses. Others provide professional services, financial services, consumer products, hospitality, real estate or property services.
We don’t try to force them into the same operating model.
Instead, we determine what each company needs most — better leadership, stronger financial controls, improved technology, more effective marketing, additional capital, new distribution channels, acquisitions or simply greater operating discipline — and concentrate our resources there.

Build. Acquire. Operate. Scale. Exit.

Build

infrastructure or existing portfolio provides an advantage. Some of UCG’s businesses were acquisitions. Others began with nothing more than an idea, a market need and a conviction that we could build a better solution.

Acquire

We acquire established companies where we believe the underlying business is strong and UCG can contribute meaningfully to its next stage of growth. We are less concerned with fitting opportunities into a rigid industry mandate than we are with finding good businesses that we understand and believe we can improve.

Operate

We remain close to the businesses we own. UCG works alongside company leadership to improve systems, people, processes, technology, financial visibility and operating structure. Our companies have their own teams, but the group remains actively involved in strategy and major operating decisions.

Scale

Once the foundation is right, we invest behind what works. That can include expanding customer acquisition, distribution, technology, geographic reach, personnel, products, partnerships or acquisitions.

Exit

Building enterprise value also means knowing when ownership should change. When the timing is right, we position businesses for transactions that recognize the value created while giving the company the opportunity to continue succeeding under its next owner.

Independent companies. Shared capabilities.

Each UCG company maintains its own brand, customers and operating identity while benefiting from experience and resources across the broader portfolio.

UCG continues to be founder-led, but it is supported by experienced teams across its operating businesses.
Our role is not to replace the people closest to a company. It is to give them the resources, perspective and support to build something stronger.
Sometimes that means creating a company ourselves. Sometimes it means acquiring an established business. And sometimes it means helping an already successful company become substantially larger and more valuable.
