Our Story

Built by doing the work.

United Commerce Group did not begin as an investment fund. It began with an entrepreneur building businesses.

01 — The Beginning

It began with an entrepreneur building businesses.

Jason Guerrettaz founded United Commerce Group after beginning his professional career as a corporate attorney and later moving into digital marketing and entrepreneurship.

UCG’s early years were spent creating and acquiring specialty eCommerce businesses across categories ranging from home and outdoor products to security, wellness and children’s products.

The work was hands-on from the beginning.

It meant finding customers, managing employees, building websites and technology, negotiating with manufacturers, managing inventory, controlling cash flow and figuring out how to grow businesses without losing the things that made them successful.

That experience helped UCG earn national recognition as one of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies, and ultimately co-founded Website Closers, the largest Technology & Internet Focused M&A firm on the planet.

More importantly, it created the operating foundation that still drives the company today.

02 — The M&A Ecosystem

From operating businesses to M&A.

Buying and selling UCG’s own businesses exposed Jason to another opportunity.

Traditional business brokers understood transactions, but relatively few understood how companies actually operated, especially Tech, Internet and Digital platforms.

That gap ultimately led Jason to co-found Website Closers with experienced business intermediary Ron Matheson. Website Closers was created specifically to represent owners of Technology, Internet and digitally enabled companies, combining professional M&A execution with first-hand operating knowledge of the businesses being sold.

What began as one specialized brokerage eventually developed into a broader M&A ecosystem whereby the franchise model built under the Website Closers flagship brand now represents business owners in all industries, shapes and sizes.

03 — Expansion

The portfolio kept evolving.

UCG never set out to become a holding company confined to a single industry.

The same operating principles that applied to an eCommerce company could apply to a professional services business, a consumer brand, a vacation rental operation or a home-services company.

Over time, UCG expanded into financial services, consumer products, real estate, hospitality, property management, home services and other businesses where Jason believed the group could create an advantage.

Some companies were acquired.

Some were built internally.

Others grew from opportunities created by businesses already within the portfolio.

Today, the industries are considerably more diverse than they were when UCG began. The philosophy behind them is not.

04 — Structure

Still founder-led.

United Commerce Group has grown well beyond a single entrepreneur.

Each operating company has people responsible for its customers, employees and daily operations, and the broader organization is supported by teams across multiple businesses.

But UCG remains founder-led. Jason continues to direct the group’s overall strategy, evaluate acquisitions and new ventures and remain involved in major decisions across the portfolio.

That structure allows UCG to benefit from professional operating teams without becoming disconnected from the businesses it owns.

05 — Philosophy

Build useful businesses. Make good companies better.

We remain entrepreneurs at heart.

We like businesses that solve real problems.

Technology should improve operations, not complicate them.

We value sustainable cash flow over vanity metrics, capable people over unnecessary organizational complexity and long-term enterprise value over short-term appearances.

Owners should understand the companies they own.

We still get involved.

Still Building

There is no predetermined finish line.

United Commerce Group continues to build, acquire and operate companies where we believe our experience can create meaningful long-term value.

We remain interested in good businesses, compelling opportunities and people who want to build something worthwhile.
